Seafood Processing

Seafood Processing News

Because Steamboat Bay Fishing Club is the closest lodge to the best fishing in Southeast Alaska, guests catch a lot of seafood. As part of The Club’s all inclusive resort guest services, Steamboat bay’s dedicated seafood processing department cleans, trims, vacuum-seals and flash-freezes guests’ catch all according to individual preference.
Whether guests want steaks or fillets for a taste of Alaska cuisine at home, or ask instead to have their trophy catch mounted for display, the professional seafood processing crew are equipped with the proper training, tools and facilities to handle the wide variety of SE Alaska fish.
Once processed, seafood is packed in custom wet-lock fish boxes specially designed for checking as luggage for guests’ return flight home. Guest services on property and in Ketchikan are available to assist guests with fish box transfer during travel. Shipping through a commercial courier service is also available.
For optimal enjoyment of seafood, fish boxes should immediately be unpacked upon arriving home and stored in a freezer. Fish may typically be kept frozen for approximately four to six months. For tips on how to best prepare fresh Alaskan seafood, guests are invited to ask The Club’s executive chef while at the resort.
