Five-kilo lobster ‘pardoned’ for new life at aquarium

By Oliver McIntyre

A HUGE lobster weighing over five kilos has been ‘pardoned’ from the cook pot to instead live out its days at Benalmádena’s Sea-Life aquarium.

In a nod to the Semana Santa tradition of religious confraternities, or ‘cofradías’, pardoning an inmate for early release from prison, ‘Pinzas’ (‘Claws’) the lobster last week received his pardon from “the recently created ‘cofradía del bogavante’,  formed by lobsters, crabs and sea-horses,” said Sea-Life in a tongue-in-claw written statement.

Huge Lobster

A 23.2 Pound Giant Lobster photo

Maine actually has a law that at 24lbs, it gets the right to vote in primary elections.

Can any marine biologist here explain why one claw is curvy and one is stabby? And, no, it isn't because I touch myself at night.
+
Any Mainer knows that the bigger the lobster, the less flavorful. That would taste like rubber tire. Half-pounders are where it's at.
+
Lobsters used to get up to something like 4-5 feet long back before they became over-fished.
+
That is an old lobster. Lobsters don't stop growing.
