This lobster roll has more bling than Jacob the Jeweler.
BLT Fish in Flatiron has transformed a summertime staple into an ostentatious crustacean construction featuring gold leaf, caviar, fancy French butter, hand-grown chives and, yes, 1¾ pounds of lobster meat.

It’s yours for $160, or $13.33 a bite.
“It’s opulent comfort food — and gilded lobster adds to the decadence,” says chef Luke Venner of the decadent dinner roll he’ll start selling this weekend. “I think of myself as stylish. People wear a Cartier watch, so I thought, ‘Why not make a gold-label lobster roll?’" Read more

Lobster Rolls Recipe

Lobster Roll 2

Ingredients

Lobster
Mayo
Lemon
Celery
Celery Salt
Hot Dog Rolls
Optional: fresh basil, paprika, roe

How to cook the Lobster rools

  1. Boil the lobsters in a non-traumatic way for about 8 to 12 minutes, or until bright red. Remove from the pot and after they’ve sufficiently cooled, crack and remove the meat. Place the meat in a large bowl. Tear the meat into small chunks.
  1. Add several scant tablespoons of mayo to the bowl and mix with your fingers so that the mayo lightly coats the chunks of lobster meat. If you are the sort of cook that the author’s mother is, you will speak to your lobster as you do this: That’s right! There we go! That’s the ticket! This is understood to improve flavor and integration. DO NOT overdress … just enough mayo to lightly coat the lobster meat is sufficient!Lobster Roll 3

  1. Add the juice of one (or 1/2) lemon depending on how much lobster you’re using—don’t let any seeds sneak in. Slice two to four ribs of celery (again, depending on how much lobster) crosswise, then halve each slice and add to the bowl
  1. Add celery salt to taste. Be sure to add all components gradually and taste as you go so you don’t over salt.
  1. Scoop the lobster mixture on toasted hot dog rolls. Some people like to add a tiny bit of fresh shredded basil and a sprinkle of paprika, if that kind of thing is your kind of thing. This is not traditional, but it can be delicious. This is, of course, up to you.
  2. If you are lucky enough to get a lady lobster with red roe inside, crumble the roe over the rolls as garnish and serve.

Lobster Rolls

  • Volunteers prepare lobster rolls every Friday through September at Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven.

Thank heaven for Grace Church and its rite of summertime: lobster rolls. This Friday, May 16, opens the lobster roll season. The volunteer culinary crew makes the rolls fresh each Friday through September and sells them to the hungry masses from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

If you aren’t a lobster lover, there are hot dogs and pies to make you happy. Patrons can dine in or take out. Lobster rolls are $17 and funds raised support the church’s charitable giving. Grace Church is on Woodlawn avenue just off Main street in Vineyard Haven.

Lobster Roll Time: Willie T's Opens Today

thompsonlogo.gifIt's opening day for Willie T's Lobster Shack,
Dupont Circle new seafood joint.

The restaurant has opened at 1511 Connecticut Ave. NW (former home of Marvelous Market) and is from Thompson Hospitality, the company behind such chains as American Tap Room and Austin Grill.

Willie T.'s will have lobster, crab and shrimp rolls, a Maine-themed design, reclaimed wood (naturally) and catering. There will be whoopie pies, too. No word yet on whether the brand will expand to other locations, but it seems likely given Thompson's track record.

The restaurant will be open for both lunch and dinner. Status: Opened at 11 a.m. 1511 Connecticut Ave. NW; website.

Texas Lobster place: A Lobster Roll from Dock and Roll

The lobster roll is the poster child for East Coast grub. We southerners rarely get to enjoy the delightful treat because we are so far away from the source of this delicious creation (also known as the ocean).

Drool over these stories, too:

Sometimes, however, we get lucky and find one of the few restaurants in Austin that serves up this bad boy. Places like Perla’s on SoCo, Clark’s Oyster Bar on 6th and the Dock and Roll Diner are a few of the establishments in Austin with a lobster roll on the menu. Continue
