The best lobster rolls

In tandem with this week’s of the lobster rolls that I devoured and truly loved in 2009, here are my current day 2014 picks for the best dang lobster rolls in town (or at least close to town).
One item of note: Some of these delicious puppies hit peak season in May when the Hamptons re-emerge, so all these picks aren’t actually available in this single moment, but you should bookmark for your next trip out East and snatch one or five up then.

For better or for worse, unlike the economy, not much has changed in the land of Lobster Rolls since 2009, there’s only a couple new notables that I’d include, as follows.
  • Byron at Surf Lodge: When Chef Chris Rendell took over here EVERYTHING changed. The food is sooo much better. You can get the best lobster rolls on the deck and although they aren’t cheap, after a few vodka sodas they hit the spot perfectly. Best damn drinking grab and keep drinking eats in MTK.
  • Ed’s Lobster Bar: Through the years this place has grown on me. I still believe the concept (and Ed, whomever he is) borrowed liberally from other establishments in the city, but overall it is a good, quick bite and you have to love an entire restaurant dedicated to our friend the lobster.
  • Mary’s Fish Camp & Brooklyn Fish Camp: Believe it or not, I love the Brooklyn location better. Not just because on some nights they have all you can eat peel-n-eat shrimp, but there’s just something about the vibe there that is fun. That being said, Mary’s is in my neighborhood and I eat her trout BLT religiously. The lobster roll is way to mayo-based for my frequent taste, but for those who love that infamous white sauce this one is the bees knees.
  • Lunch aka The Lobster Roll: This one still takes the cake in my opinion, simple, delicious, affordable and conveniently located roadside in between Amagansett and Montauk.
  • Red Hook Lobster Pound: They’ve now got tons of locations and a truck. Don’t love it as much in food truck form, but it is meaty and oversized and probably the best value you will get. Continue
