Lobster Price

Lobster Prices Dropping!

Long ago Lobster was so abundant that it was considered a "trash fish"  in New England. There was even a movement to make it illegal to feed lobster to servants more than three times per week because it was so cheap that the working classes got tired of it! More recently it has been seen as a delicacy and had prices that made it too expensive for most Americans to eat on a regular basis.

However, in recent years the catches have been growing and prices have been dropping, this is largely because of over-fishing of Atlantic cod, which eat young lobsters as one of their preferred foods. Now more are growing to maturity and increasing the supply. While we miss the cod, this is a nice development given that food prices in general have been going up lately.
Check out this story, by the Wall Street Journal, on some of the ways restaurants are reacting to this change.
